The Crown of the Seven Dolors consists of 7 groups of 7 beads each, divided by small descriptive medals. A short length containing 3 beads and a large medal is also attached, hanging from the centerpiece medal. On the front of each medal is a depiction of Our Lady of Sorrows, her heart pierced with seven swords; on the reverse side of each medal one of the Sorrows is depicted. The Crucifixion scene is repeated on the large medal.

THE CROWN AND METHOD OF RECITING
The Crown of the Seven Dolors consists of 7 groups of 7 beads each, divided by small descriptive medals. A short length containing 3 beads and a large medal is also attached, hanging from the centerpiece medal. On the front of each medal is a depiction of Our Lady of Sorrows, her heart pierced with seven swords; on the reverse side of each medal one of the Sorrows is depicted. The Crucifixion scene is repeated on the large medal.
Begin the Crown at the centerpiece medal with the first Sorrow, and continue through each of the 7 Sorrows, praying the Our Father on the medals at the beginning of each Sorrow, and the Hail Mary on the beads. The 7 Sorrows of Mary are:
The three beads on the short length leading to the large medal are added in remembrance of the tears of Mary, shed because of the suffering of her Divine Son. The Hail Mary is prayed on these beads to obtain true sorrow for one’s sins.
Following is the concluding prayer:
V. Pray for us, O most Sorrowful Virgin.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, we now implore, both for the present and for the hour of our death, the intercession of the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Thy Mother, whose holy soul was pierced at the time of Thy Passion by a sword of grief. Grant us this favor, O Savior of the world, Who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Ghost, forever and ever. Amen.
