The use of statues in the secular world is common practice to commemorate an event or honor a person for his great deeds. In Catholicism, these statues become not just reminders or memorials, but Sacramentals when properly blessed and used with devotion. They are therefore channels of divine grace. God uses images to bestow graces, to help us in our spiritual life, and to console and encourage us. Realizing that we are not venerating the image in itself, but rather what and who it represents, it becomes a special connection, an outward sign for the spiritual life, a connection with the triumphant part of the Mystical Body of the Christ.
